Course Description

The Professional Association of Georgia Educators (PAGE) is hosting a Seclusion and Restraint certification workshop for Oconee and CSRA RESA school districts.  The certification workshop is a 3-day, training of trainers that will be open to 15 educators in each RESA region.  The workshop is entitled, Human Empowerment and Leadership Principles (HELP) and is a product of Crisis Assessment and Prevention Systems (CAPS).  HELP is a safety management continuum that provides some of the intervention strategies contained in many other programs, with updated and refined techniques to provide safer, more effective interventions. HELP expands the idea of crisis intervention by specifically focusing on maintaining a physically and emotionally safe environment.

PAGE is providing this workshop to school districts at NO COST to assist them in meeting the training requirements of the new Georgia ruling regarding SECLUSION AND RESTRAINT FOR ALL STUDENTS (160-5-1-.35).

HELP Workshop Guidelines
Human Empowerment and Leadership Principles contains a series of verbal and physical techniques designed to decrease the probability of injury while providing care for aggressive or self-abusive individuals.
The following statements will provide guidelines for the safest training environment.
• Individuals learning this program should be able to lift a minimum of 40lbs safely.
• Individuals with less than 100% use of their natural limbs have an increased risk of injury while attempting physical techniques.
• Persons 50 lbs or more over their ideal body weight may experience difficulty with balance and control while attempting restraint techniques.
• Please wear comfortable clothing and shoes. Sneakers, loafers and other low profile shoes will provide optimal comfort and safety.
• There will be a skills and a knowledge assessment test. (New instructors only)
• Minimal jewelry and accessories will prove to be the safest and the most efficient during preparation for physical exercises.
