Course Description

The newly adopted ELA standards have ramped up the writing expectations across each grade level. These expectations are not unrealistic or unattainable and you have the tools to help students create purposefully constructed text. In this course, we will break down writing instruction to make it viable and successful for you and your students. If done well, this process will move all students forward in their writing process to find their voice as an author. As a result of this course, you will be able to distinguish between what quality writing instruction is and isn’t, learn a streamlined process for chunking the construction of text, discover the power of a conferencing kit, be exposed to resources to help you know what to teach, learn how to maximize success through goal setting and progress monitoring and be able to use these conferencing techniques as a foundation for small group writing instruction. You will leave this course with not only knowledge and inspiration, but a starter kit for writing instruction in line with our current and new standards and writing conferences.
