Course Description

Teachers will be introduced to close reading strategies and will leave with resources for ELA 3-12 classroom work with meaningful literary and informational text analysis. Participants will:

  • identify and use materials to develop specific close reading skills
  • examine and implement strategies to help readers.
  • learn strategies to help students comprehend texts before, during, and after reading.
  • select and use strategies to improve vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension instruction in different content areas. 

    Essential Questions:
  • What is close reading?
  • What makes a text "complex"?
  • How does close reading differ from other reading tasks?
  • What strategies do good readers use?
  • How can teachers assist students in comprehending and interpreting complex texts?
