Course Description

Manifestation Determination Review: A discussion of the “Lucky 21 Essential Points to Remember” when disciplining Students with Disabilities

This half-day session will provide an overview of the Manifestation Determination Review process.  Using guidance provided by the Council of Administrators of Special education (CASE), we will discuss essential points to remember when disciplining students with disabilities.  Whether you are a classroom teacher or a system level administrator, you will learn what you need to know to stay in compliance with this legal mandate. 

Objectives for this course include the following:

  • Identify who is entitled to an MDR
  • Explore when to conduct an MDR 
  • Describe the MDR process
  • Explain why an MDR should be conducted
  • Review the legal standard required when making a determination
  • Discuss what happens after an MDR
