Course Description

Classroom Management 102: De-escalation, Rules, and Consequences

Classroom Management 1 is a requirement for attendance in CM 2 and CM 3. This class will focus on de-escalation, rules, and consequences. De-escalation for this class means using techniques to reduce the angst, anger, and threat levels through adjusting adult behaviors. This is not a physical detainment training program. Participants will develop a better understanding of what adult behaviors help and what adult behaviors interfere with keeping the classroom environment under control, yet not making things worse. Time will also be  spent on what rules and consequences are and how they should be implemented. Class members will develop a draft set of rules and consequences for their classrooms. Emphasis is placed on looking at scenarios and creating solutions.

Note: Dr. Miletto can also be scheduled to visit the whole school, specific classes or  departments within a school or system to provide feedback to administration, leadership teams, and the school faculty.

Badge: This is one of several requirements to earn a Classroom Management digital badge.
