Literacy Perspectives:  

Foundations of Literacy Development and Instruction

 

Course description/objectives:
This course introduces candidates to the theory, practices, and current issues related to children’s literacy development in the early years. On completion of this course, candidates should be able to: 

-Identify major theories and empirical research regarding child development in language/literacy.
-Implement appropriate and varied instructional approaches for culturally and linguistically diverse learners.
-Recognize the theories and research that support the importance of social interactions/relationships in young children’s literacy development and learning. 
-Diagnose  differences in students’ development of phonological and phonemic awareness and adjust instruction to meet the needs of individual students, including English-language learners.

Withdrawal/Cancellation Policy
Notification of cancellation for any course must be received prior to the registration deadline. Registration fees are refundable only if cancellation is received before the registration deadline. Withdrawals/Cancellations received after the registration deadline will not be accepted and fees will not be refundable.
