The state requires a four-hour training for individuals to serve as a substitute teacher. Oconee RESA offers trainings that will qualify an individual to serve as a substitute. Upon completion, candidates will be eligible to substitute
teach in Baldwin, Hancock, Johnson, Putnam, Washington, and Wilkinson counties.
Participants will need to contact the local school district where you wish to
work and obtain an application for employment.
You must confirm with the school district that they will accept Oconee RESA's training before you register to attend the class. Details regarding local requirements to be a substitute teacher are available at each county’s board of education. It is the participant's responsibility to complete the application process with the system or systems they wish to work with. This includes an application, references, and fingerprinting/background check. Substitutes must complete the entire training, so make sure you arrive early as the course begins promptly. Individuals arriving more than ten minutes after the starting time will not be admitted and will need to register for another workshop.
Substitute Teacher Training Registration and Cancellation Policy Registration Policy Registration for Substitute Teacher Training is online and must be received prior to the deadline. Space is limited and registration is on a “first-come, first served” basis. The fee is $40.00 and is payable online at the time of registration or by money order. If paying with a cashier's check or money order, it must be received by Oconee RESA one week prior to the date of the class you are registered to attend.
Cancellation/Refund/Withdrawal
Policy Oconee RESA observes a NO REFUND policy
with substitute training. The only exception to this policy is when
Oconee RESA must cancel a training. If Oconee RESA must cancel a
training session, registrants can request a refund or have their
registration and payment moved to another training date. If a participant must cancel or withdraw from a registered training, they must notify the RESA office by 12:00 p.m. the day before the training. If notification is received, the participant may choose ONE future training
class to apply their registration and payment. If a participant does not cancel before the 12:00 p.m. deadline or does not show the day of the training, NO REFUND will be issued and the fee cannot be transferred to a future training session. The participant must register again and pay
the full fee for another training session. |
