Paraprofessional Literacy Academy This professional learning pathway was
created to support the paraprofessional in acquiring foundational skills in Literacy
to support reading development for grades K-2. At the onset of the series,
paras will be introduced to the pillars of reading comprehension, skills
concepts, and concrete strategies through theoretical lessons and application
into classrooms. Topic: Having Fun with Phonemic Awareness In this PL,
participants will: = Understand how to assess their students'
phonemic awareness abilities and plan specific activities to meet their needs = Use a wide variety of analogy activities to
teach basic sounds, onsets and rimes = Review current research and the importance
of phonological awareness = Review terminologies such as orthographic
mapping, orthographic lexicon, and phonemic awareness = Understand how to incorporate multi-sensory
strategies in activities = Understand how to implement one-minute
