Paraprofessional Literacy Academy This professional learning pathway was
created to support the paraprofessional in acquiring foundational skills in Literacy
to support reading development for grades K-2. At the onset of the series,
paras will be introduced to the pillars of reading comprehension, skills
concepts, and concrete strategies through theoretical lessons and application
into classrooms. October: Fall into Phonics In this PL,
participants will: = Create and select a scope and sequence of
phonics skills that are age- and developmentally appropriate for students
(create). = Write engaging phonics lessons for all
students at the Tier 1 level (create). = Assess individual students’ mastery of phonics and phonological awareness skills (evaluate). = Utilize assessment data to group students
for differentiated instruction in phonics/decoding and phonological awareness
(create). = Utilize word study (morphology) in reading and writing lessons to advance students’ vocabulary knowledge and comprehension (evaluate and create). Target Audience: Classroom Teachers, Instructional Facilitators/Coaches |
