Paraprofessional Literacy Academy This professional learning pathway was
created to support the paraprofessional in acquiring foundational skills in Literacy
to support reading development for grades K-2. At the onset of the series,
paras will be introduced to the pillars of reading comprehension, skills
concepts, and concrete strategies through theoretical lessons and application
into classrooms. November:
Grateful for Academic Vocabulary In this PL,
participants will: = Effective strategies for meaningful
vocabulary instruction = Explain the rationale for developing a
robust and rigorous vocabulary program and its relationship to student
achievement in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. = Explain the tiers of vocabulary
instruction, and plan instruction and activities aligned with these tiers. = Develop and implement strategies to
differentiate vocabulary instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners. = Apply specific strategies for developing
