Presenter: Kevin Raczynski, Georgia Center of Assessment
The workshops will include a process for guiding students through informational and literary texts with a sequence of discussion questions aligned to particular reading standards, namely standards 1-4, standard 4 relating to vocabulary. This sequence begins with less rigorous discussion questions and, as students develop confidence, moves toward more rigorous discussion questions. The sequence continues with the introduction of short constructed-response questions, which, for these workshops, will ask students to identify how specific words and phrases lead to specific effects (e.g., development of tone, character, etc.). In short, these workshops provide an example of embedding vocabulary instruction within broader literacy instruction.
