Course Description
The Endorsement is divided into three courses consisting of two 5 PLU classes and one 7 plu class and must be taken in sequence.  Completion of the three courses is required in order to add the Gifted endorsement to an existing level 4 professional teaching certificate or higher.
This is a job-embedded program. Candidates must practice skills with students.

I. Course Description 

Characteristics of the Gifted, provides an overview of gifted learners and special populations. Cognitive, social-emotional, and behavioral characteristics of gifted children necessitate different instructional design. This course will address methods by which the unique characteristics can be addressed in instruction and learning environment. This course also addresses the instruments used in the process of identifying and serving gifted students.

II. Rationale

The purpose of Characteristics of the Gifted is to examine the various traits of the gifted and to understand the environmental and cultural factors that may affect the identification and instruction of these students.

The on-line portion of the class consists of learning modules that will be completed over a twelve week period. All assignments and projects must be turned in and completed satisfactorily to the instructor by the last class.

Since students are required to complete most assignments, candidate must begin course on or before March 1st.  Exceptions will be made on a case by case basis.  It is the candidates responsibility to be finished by June 1st.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellation for any course must be received prior to the registration deadline. Registration fees are refundable only if cancellation is received by the registration deadline. Any cancellations received after the deadline will not be accepted and fees will not be returned. If cancellation is not made and registrant does not attend the course, the status will be "No Show" and payment will still be required.
