Course Description

This training series will provide Teacher of the Visually Impaired with practice and support as they implement assessments and develop instructional plans for students with visual impairments in Georgia.

December 5, 2020 --Virtual--10:00am-4:00pm--Functional Visual Assessment (FVA)

 Functional Vision Assessments

"This course will review the different portions involved in assessing functional vision for students with visual impairments along with the materials needed to perform each. Demonstration will be provided using a model and the participants are encouraged to find a volunteer, spouse, child, friend, etc. to practice on. We will also review the checklists used for the assessment."  Participants should have their functional vision kit materials available to use when practicing portions of the assessment. 

December 12, 2020 --Virtual--9:00am-12:00pm--Learning Media Assessment (LMA)

 Learning Media Assessments

"This course will review the different portions involved in assessing learning media for students with visual impairments. We will perform a practice reading inventory and complete the Jerry Johns Reading Inventory forms. We will review the sections used for academic k-12 students, pre-readers and students with multiple disabilities. We will also review the forms found in the Koenig and Holbrook textbook and practice filling the necessary forms out along with discussing examples. We will discuss in detail how to assess sensory learning channels and what it means."  The Koenig and Holbrook text, Learning Media Assessment: A Resource Guide (2nd ed.) is available online from ERIC at no cost.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellation for any course must be received prior to the registration deadline. Registration fees are refundable only if cancellation is received by the registration deadline. Any cancellations received after the deadline will not be accepted and fees will not be returned. If cancellation is not made and registrant does not attend the course, the status will be "No Show" and payment will still be required.
