Senator John Cooke represents Colorado Senate District 13 which includes most of Weld County including Greeley, Evans, Milliken, LaSalle, Gilcrest, Platteville and Fort Lupton.

Senator Cooke was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and lived there for the first five years of his life. After graduating from Arvada West High School, he headed to the University of Northern Colorado where he earned a degree in Sociology. He joined the United States Army National Guard while still in college and served for six years in the 220th MP Company.

Upon graduating from UNC, Senator Cooke took a position with the Breckenridge Police Department. When a position with the Weld County Sheriff's Office opened up, he was excited to return to Northern Colorado with his family.

He worked his way up through the ranks of the Sheriff's Office, starting as a patrol deputy and soon becoming a detective investigating homicides, rape cases, and sex assaults on children. He earned numerous promotions under two Sheriffs.

Senator Cooke is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and the Law Enforcement Executive Development Seminar in Quantico, Virginia. He was elected Weld County Sheriff in 2002 and completed three terms before being elected to serve Senate District 13.

Senator Cooke is dedicated to increasing rights for the victims of violent crimes and sexual assaults, increasing penalties for DUIs and violent crimes and broadening support for District Attorneys and our men and women in blue who seek to provide justice for Coloradans in need.

Senator Cooke and his wife have a wonderful blended family that includes his two children, three step-children, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren.
