Bio

Sarah is a graduate of Mount Airy High School, the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and Campbell University School of Law. She is Past President of the Surry County Bar Association.

She lives in Mt. Airy with her husband Edwin and has two daughters - Jennifer and Maggie. She has maintained a private practice as a lawyer since 1986 and has been a State Representative since 2009.

During her tenure in the North Carolina General Assembly she has been the Chair of Judiciary Committees, Children Youth and Families, and the North Carolina Courts Commission. She has sponsored many bills from these Committees and also has introduced legislation for the betterment of her district.

Through the Social Services Working group, and now the Child Well-Being Transformation Council, Rep. Stevens has worked tirelessly on reforming the Child Welfare system in North Carolina. She has been a relentless advocate for those children who cannot speak for themselves.

On January 11, 2017 the members of the General Assembly voted for her as the Speaker Pro Tempore of the House where she still holds that title today.
