Stan Gerdes is a 5th generation Texan, born and raised in Waco. After high school, Stan made his way down to Austin to attend college at The University of Texas, where he met his wife, Samantha ("Sam"), on the first day of class. Stan has worked for Governor Rick Perry for nearly a decade - beginning when he was Governor of Texas, and throughout his time as Secretary of Energy. As Senior Advisor to Secretary Perry, Stan held an Active Q Clearance for access to information classified as "Top Secret National Security Information" and led an extensive team to organize and manage every aspect of the Secretary's daily schedule - including travel to all 17 national labs, and to over 25 countries. Stan accompanied the Secretary to countries including, but not limited to the United Arab Emirates, South Africa, Mexico, Belgium, the United Kingdom, Czech Republic, Israel and France. During his tenure in Washington, D.C., Stan quickly sharpened his ability to lead large and diverse teams - managing and coordinating staff within multiple departments across the 105,000 employee agency, along with staff at foreign embassies and security teams from around the world. Stan is a proud Camp Longhorn alumnus and a lifetime member of the Texas Exes, the Dallas Safari Club and the National Rifle Association. Most weekends, you can find Stan working in the yard, planning a house project at the local hardware store, or having breakfast at Comfort Cafe. He also enjoys volunteering at "Feed the Need" on Tuesday evenings, and the Smithville Food Pantry when his schedule allows. Sam is an attorney, and remains an active member of the Junior League where she has dedicated many years to volunteering in organizations such as FIT (Food in Tummies), Coats for Kids, Women's Storybook Project, and Drive-A-Senior. Stan and Sam are both proud graduates of The University of Texas at Austin.
