Bio

Senator Kathleen Riebe, Minority Whip, proudly represents Utah's District 15, including Cottonwood Heights, Midvale, Sandy and Brighton. She brings forth a legacy of public service deeply rooted in her upbringing. Born into a family of law enforcement officers and firefighters, she inherited a commitment to community welfare and dedicated her career to public service as a teacher, following in the footsteps of her grandfather, father, and brother.

She earned her B.S. in Elementary Education and Sociology from Hofstra University and furthered her educational qualifications with an M.Ed. in Education Administration from Utah State University, along with an Educational Technology Endorsement from Southern Utah State University.

Her political career commenced on January 1, 2019, marking her commitment to legislative service. Prior to her tenure in the Senate, Kathleen served on the Utah State School Board for two years, contributing significantly to the finance committee's efforts to enhance transparency in school spending.

Kathleen's role as Minority Whip underscores her leadership and involvement in critical decision-making processes. Her primary focus remains on education, drawing from her rich background in teaching and education administration.

Her tireless dedication has earned her several honors, including the Legislative Business Champion and the Legislative Advocate for Children Award, showcasing her commitment to impactful policy-making.

Beyond legislation, Kathleen remains deeply rooted in her community, having participated in numerous town halls, community events, and initiatives. Outside politics, Kathleen has embraced diverse roles, including work as a dump-truck driver, police dispatcher, firefighter, and outdoor educator, reflecting her multifaceted interests.
