BioRepresentative Sequanna Taylor is a dedicated educator, community organizer, and Democratic politician from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Since January 2025, she has represented the 11th Assembly District in the Wisconsin State Assembly. Additionally, she serves as the 5th District Supervisor on the Milwaukee County Board, a position she has held since 2016, with a brief redistricting to the 2nd District between 2016 and 2022.
Born in July 1979, Taylor was raised in Milwaukee's Amani neighborhood. She was the first in her family to graduate from high school and college. While working full-time and raising her children, she earned an associate degree from Concordia University Wisconsin and a bachelor's degree from Cardinal Stritch University.
Taylor dedicated 15 years to the Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) as a Parent Engagement Specialist, focusing on families of special needs students. Her commitment to education led her to leadership roles within the Milwaukee Teachers' Education Association and the National Education Association's Board of Directors.
In 2016, Taylor was elected to the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors, representing the 2nd District. She was re-elected in subsequent terms and, following redistricting in 2022, began representing the 5th District. In 2019, she also secured a seat on the Milwaukee Public Schools Board of Directors, serving a four-year term.
In 2024, Taylor announced her candidacy for the Wisconsin State Assembly's 11th District after Representative Dora Drake pursued a Senate seat. Taylor won the Democratic primary with over 83% of the vote and ran unopposed in the general election.
Beyond her official roles, Taylor is the CEO of Open Arms Inc. and Taylor Legacies. She actively participates in organizations such as Dream Team United MKE and the Wisconsin Association of School Boards.
In 2022, Taylor received the Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizing her over 4,000 hours of community service. Her volunteer efforts include organizing monthly food and resource giveaways in Milwaukee and international initiatives, such as providing hygiene items to students in Ghana.
Taylor is a mother of four and resides in Milwaukee. She has openly discussed overcoming personal challenges, including an emotionally abusive marriage during her youth. In recognition of her contributions to entrepreneurship and business administration, she was awarded an honorary doctorate from Trinity International University in 2022.
