BioI'm Timmy Truett, candidate for state representative of the 89th district. I have been happily married to my wife, Mandi, for 21 years. We have 3 children, Tate (age 16), Tansen (age 12), and Titus (age 8). As a lifelong resident of this district, I have had the opportunity to be an active member of the community. I have been an educator in Jackson County for 22 years where I have had the privilege of teaching at the middle, high, and elementary levels. I have proudly served as the principal of Mckee Elementary for the last five years. Under my leadership as principal, in 2019, McKee Elementary was recognized as a five star school, a recognition only 37 elementary schools in the state received. I am an active member of many educational leadership communities, as well as a small business owner of Truett Pumpkin Patch here in Jackson County which has also served surrounding counties in the district for the past 10 years.
I have always had a strong interest in the youth of our community. I have coached multiple sports, ranging from little league baseball to varsity basketball, baseball, and volleyball. I am an active member of the McKee Baptist Church where I serve as the youth director. I feel that supporting the youth of our area is the lifeblood of our future.
Community leadership has always been a passion of mine. I am a local farmer and am an active participant in the Jackson County Cattlemen's Association. My interest in clean, safe water provided to all residents of Jackson County led to me holding a position on the board of the Jackson County Water Association. The safety of our community is also a foremost concern of mine which led to being a member of the Jackson County Coalition of Operation Unite.
My vision for the 89th district is to be a productive, prosperous area where community and family values are at the forefront. Over the course of my life, my involvement in the community has allowed me to realize my passion to end the cycle of generational poverty that plagues our area. I think many would agree the way to do this is through education and economic development; however, I would like to take that a step further. I want to infuse the basic conservative principle of limited big government, instead focusing on our greatest resource for change--our people. As a representative, I will encourage incentivising grassroots ideas for economic development through education. I will encourage community partnerships with local businesses to invest in our youth. I will work to secure funding to support these ideas through education programs. My goal is to be a leader that doesn't just acknowledge our problems, but to work to make the difference to solve those problems
