Bio

J. Rogers Pope comes to the Senate from the House of Representatives,where he served the region for 12 years. He is a graduate of DenhamSprings High School and holds a Bachelor's degree from SoutheasternLouisiana University, as well as a Master's degree plus 30 graduatehours from Southeastern Louisiana University. He is a retired leader ineducation having served 38 years as a Livingston Parish educator, aswell as 14 years as Superintendent of Livingston Parish Public Schools. He transformed the Livingston Parish School System into one of the mostproductive and highest-achieving systems in the state, earning himnumerous distinguished awards including- 1998 Distinguished Educator,2000 State Superintendent of the Year, and 2001 Elected President of theLouisiana Association of School Superintendents.

Senator Pope has also served as the executive director of the LouisianaAssociation of School Executives (LASE), helping to draft and implementimportant legislation impacting the quality of K-12 education inLouisiana.

As a legislator, Rogers has served on the House Appropriations, Health &Welfare, and Joint Legislative Committee on the Budget. He has beenhonored for his service by numerous groups and conservative watchdogorganizations, including the Louisiana Family Forum, the Louisiana StateTroopers Association, the Louisiana Moral and Civic Foundation,Childcare Association of Louisiana and Louisiana Federation of Teachersand School Boards Associations.

Rogers is married to the former Pat Dixon of Denham Springs; they havetwo children and six grandchildren.
