I attended Pacific Lutheran University for my undergraduate degree and the University of Washington for my doctorate. Though I'm a dentist, I primarily work in science and healthcare consulting. Since I'm passionate about learning, achievement, and leadership, I've also attended professional courses at Harvard School of Business, where I studied value-based healthcare within the Institute for Strategy and Competitiveness, as well as Kellogg School of Management and Wharton School of Business. In 2019, I finished my third degree, a Masters in Public Health, at the University of Montana. Montana's public education system is superb! After finishing my doctorate, I started my career as a dentist in the Air Force at Malmstrom AFB in Great Falls. During my time in the Air Force, I was awarded the US Air Force Achievement Medal twice and was also deployed -- but it was to Jamaica so I'm not sure that really counts. -) I'm passionate about service to our great country and still travel regularly to Fort Harrison to provide care to our Montana Army National Guard, ensuring that they're ready for deployment.

After the Air Force, I took a position as the Dental Director for Community Health Partners dental clinic. It was a new start up at that point. It was there that I realized that I had a talent for the management and business side of healthcare. Financial management and quality improvement in community health centers, such as Community Health Partners, is one of my areas of expertise and I have provided consulting services to these types of clinics all across the US, from Maine to Alaska to California, and everywhere in between.

I then moved on from Community Health Partners and started my own private practice dental office, Mint Dental Studio. During this period in my career, I learned the skills needed to be a small business owner. I also saw first-hand the opportunities and challenges of being a small business owner. As a consequence, I started to teach myself about Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma and how to apply those concepts to healthcare. During this time, I was beginning to get more and more involved in research and community-based health programming. In fact, I became obsessed! Specifically, my areas of interest were, and still are, "translational research" which is the study of how research findings get incorporated into practice and policy, and building community-based programs which provide care to disadvantaged children and the elderly. Eventually, I became so consumed with these topics, that I sold Mint Dental Studio.

I still own a private dental practice, but if you wanted to come see me, you'd need to be in a nursing home. I care for the elderly and disabled in nursing homes across Montana. After I sold Mint Dental Studio, I started a non-profit, Sprout Oral Health, of which I am the Director. Sprout provides research and healthcare consulting services, and develops and implements community-based dental programs for disadvantaged populations. Our flagship program is called Sealants for Smiles. Each year, this program provides no-cost preventive dental services to 11,000-12,000 children across Montana. The program boasts 600 volunteers. Each year, I volunteer at roughly 50 schools across Montana caring for preschool and elementary school children. I also provide care to the children of the Gallatin/Park County Head Start Center. In 2017, I was recognized by the Bozeman Human Resource Development Council (HRDC) for my work with disadvantaged preschoolers with the Future Generations Award.

I hope to take my experience to Helena to continue to advocate for the people, families, and children of Montana to whom I've dedicated my life.
