BioJerimie Chad Robertson is an American politician who has served as a Republican member of the Alabama House of Representatives for District 40 since November 9, 2022. Born and raised in Heflin, Alabama, Robertson represents parts of Cleburne County and southeastern Calhoun County in the Alabama legislature. He currently resides in the Heflin area with his wife Laura (nee Cobb) and their three children, and the family attends Heflin Baptist Church.
Robertson's professional career began with four years of service in the United States Navy, which he entered directly after graduating from high school. Following his military service, he utilized his G.I. Bill benefits to pursue higher education at Southern Union Community College and Auburn University, ultimately completing his degree in business management with a concentration in finance at Jacksonville State University. His educational journey spanned multiple institutions as he worked to advance his career prospects in the civilian sector.
After completing his education, Robertson worked for Southwire for 10 years before transitioning to entrepreneurship. He became a small business owner, co-owning two fitness centers with his wife- Heflin Fitness and Lineville Fitness. The couple operates these businesses together, with Robertson bringing his business management background to bear on their operations. In addition to the fitness centers, Robertson and his wife recently purchased a convenience store, expanding their business portfolio.
Robertson's involvement in community leadership began through his work with the Cleburne County Chamber of Commerce. In 2018, he became the interim executive director of the organization when the chamber faced challenges in hiring suitable candidates for the position. The board ultimately selected him as the permanent executive director, a role he held until resigning in 2022 due to his election to the state legislature. During his tenure, he worked to grow the organization and improve its capacity to serve local businesses and promote economic development in Cleburne County.
His entry into politics was prompted by redistricting following the 2020 Census and the retirement of Representative K.L. Brown. Robertson announced his candidacy for the Alabama House of Representatives District 40 seat in December 2021, stating that he felt called to serve after prayer and consideration with his family. He emphasized his commitment to economic development, education, conservative values, and protecting constitutional rights during his campaign.
The 2022 Republican primary was highly contested, with Robertson facing six other candidates. He won 22.2% of the vote in the initial primary, then defeated Julie Borrelli in the runoff election with 50.2% of the vote. In the general election, Robertson defeated Democratic opponent Pam Howard with 82.9% of the vote, making him the only Republican to defeat an incumbent Democrat in an Alabama legislative race in 2022.
In the Alabama House of Representatives, Robertson serves on three committees- Military and Veterans Affairs, Constitution, Campaigns and Elections, and Economic Development and Tourism. His committee assignments align with his background as a military veteran, business owner, and his legislative priorities focused on economic development and veterans' issues. He has been particularly interested in expanding the state's Veteran Treatment Courts program and encouraging strategic economic development in his district.
Robertson has sponsored several pieces of legislation since taking office, including measures related to food enrichment requirements, educational opportunities for high school dropouts, and sales tax reductions. He has also been involved in legislation supporting veterans and promoting economic development initiatives that benefit rural Alabama communities.
Beyond his political and business activities, Robertson serves on the Tri-County Tourism Board and the board of Leadership Cleburne County. He is also a committee member of Friends of the Forest, demonstrating his commitment to environmental conservation and forestry issues important to his district. His focus on tourism and economic development reflects his understanding of the economic needs of rural Alabama and his commitment to creating opportunities for residents to remain in and return to the area.
