Prosecuting Attorneys Association of Michigan

Join the Prosecuting Attorneys Association of Michigan - VSTU for the training on Appeals 101, August 24.2021 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am.

Presenters: The PAAM VSTU is pleased to host this training in partnership with James Benison, chief appellate attorney for the Kent County Prosecuting Attorney's Office.

Appeals 101:What happens when a case is finished in the trial court, but not really finished?  How does the appellate system operate?  What is the difference between an application for leave to appeal and an appeal of right? Why are there motions on a case in the trial court when the case is on appeal?  When, if ever, is a case ever truly done?

Join PAAM for an overview of the appellate process, designed primarily for victim advocates and for attorneys who want to know more about what goes on in the Court of Appeals and the Michigan Supreme Court.   The goal is to help you understand the basics of the process, enabling you to better answer questions from victims or their families.
