Self-Guided Online component followed by a full day In-person trial advocacy session

Join the PAAM VAWP for this FREE, interactive, Hybrid DV/Intimate Partner Violence Trial Advocacy Training.  This training is designed for new prosecutors or assistant prosecutor new to handling intimate partner violence crimes or those looking for a refresher if returning to handling those type of cases. Presentation areas and exercises will cover:

  • Working with Victims of IPV
  • Victim Privacy and Partnering with Advocacy programs
  • DV Laws and Common charging issues
  • Evidentiary issues/Evidence Based Prosecution
  • Voir Dire 
  • Opening and Closing arguments
  • Direct and cross examination
  • Expert witness testimony
  • Perpetrator behavior and abuser accountability 

This training will include presentations, discussion sessions and trial advocacy exercises.  Attendees are expected to fully review all the materials and presentations and participate in the discussion and exercises.  Case file/fact pattern material and presentation links for viewing before the training will be provided to attendees the Friday before the training (10/21/22)

Hotel Rooms may be available for attendees required to travel greater than 50 miles to the training location.  Please contact Alexandra McGowan at for more information.  

Food and beverages will not be provided in accordance with VAWP grant restrictions.  There is vending and a small cafeteria onsite. Additional information will be provided regarding lunch options in the area.
