The Prosecuting Attorneys' Council of Georgia invites prosecutors and law enforcement to register for Animal Abuse and the Link to Collateral Crimes: How animal abuse investigations may lead to other crimes by or against humans - Webinar being held online via Skype. The webinar will be presented by Ms. Jessica Rock. Ms. Rock is the Assistant District Attorney in the Towaliga Judicial Circuit. The training will be held on Wednesday, February 26, 2020 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.

Animal cruelty is part of a larger nexus of crimes and the psyche behind them. People are at risk when animals are abused, and animals are at risk when people are abused. Taking animal abuse seriously will lead to justice for animals and the identification of other crimes involving humans. This webinar will explore how recognizing that animal abuse, animal neglect and animal fighting are often linked to the commission of other violent crimes such as domestic violence, child and elder abuse, gang violence, drugs, illegal weapons offenses, bestiality, child pornography and more, and that law enforcement, prosecutors and other professionals should be educated on this link, and that penalties for animal abuse should reflect this link
