Drug Delivery Resulting in Death: Web Based CLE

Course Information

In response to the opioid epidemic, prosecutors are increasingly seeking to hold offenders accountable for the deaths of individuals to whom they deliver dangerous drugs. Whether prosecuting these crimes under a Drug Delivery Resulting in Death statute or a manslaughter theory, many factors can obscure a drug dealer’s responsibility for the fatal overdose of the consumer. This session will focus on the evidence necessary for building these cases, theories of offender liability, and effective presentation of evidence at trial. The presenter will also discuss office policies, protocols, and other considerations for enhancing the prosecution response to opioid-related deaths.

Upon completion of this session, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify critical evidence that connects the drug dealer to the victim’s death.
  2. Charge collateral crimes to ensure offender accountability.
  3. Present evidence in a persuasive, compelling manner.
