Overview

This extremely important training will be an introduction to the various types of Homicide cases, including Drug Delivery Resulting in Death cases and provide a foundation on how to be a successful advocate for the victims’ families. Topics covered will include:

  • Different types and gradings of Homicides;
  • The various penalties;
  • The Hows and Whys of Plea Agreements;
  • Successful communication with the families;
  • Social media how it relates to victims’ family and friends;
  • A section specific to Drug Delivery Resulting in Death cases.

Registration closes on August 1, 2022. Attendance is limited to 50 participants. This course is open to DA-based and community-based victim advocates and victim witness coordinators, as well as to attorneys. Registrations will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. If you are registering multiple people for your agency, please ensure that all participant email addresses are included as there will be multiple emails sent to the participants.

Scholarships

PDAI is pleased to offer scholarships to victim advocates and victim witness coordinators to cover travel expenses and overnight lodging in order to have the opportunity to attend this training. These scholarships are funded by a grant awarded to PDAI by PCCD, Office of Victim Services for expanding training to victim services providers and subsidize the cost of attendance. Scholarship recipients are based on the information in the application and the number of scholarships the applicant’s agency previously received. Scholarship applications are available by contacting the Restitution & Victim/Witness Training Consultant, Amelia Smulktis at ajs@restitutionconsulting.com.


Accommodations

A block of rooms are available at the Best Western Premier The Central Hotel & Conference Center at the rate of $109.95+tax. Attendees are responsible for their own lodging arrangements and expenses unless receiving a scholarship. Guests may make reservations here or by calling 717-561-2800, dialing 0, and referencing the PDAI Group Block (a group block means that a certain number of rooms are being help in a block at a discounted rate). The amount of rooms are limited and are only available until August 10, 2022

Training Hours 

Registration Check-In will begin at 8:00 AM. The course will begin at 9:00 AM and end at 3:00 PM. This training qualifies for 5 PCCD-approved training hours. This training is NOT accredited for CLE credits by the PA CLE Board.


Refreshments

Due to budget restrictions, refreshments are unable to be provided for participants.  One and a half hours will be allotted for participants to go out for lunch. There is a restaurant on-property, as well as numerous others in the surrounding area.


Cancellations

No refunds will be issued for cancellations received after August 8, 2022. Substitute attendees, however, are permissible at any time. Your agency will be billed for any unpaid registrations as of August 9, 2022.
