Catching a Rapist: The use of Genetic Genealogy in a Sexual Investigation
Mason Hall committed the most heinous and intimate of crimes short of homicide; he violently raped a complete stranger at gun point in a public park in the middle of the day. Thanks only to the relentless persistence of investigators, this Defendant was finally identified and charged more than 2 years later. This presentation will discuss the use of forensic genetic genealogy to narrow investigative leads and identify perpetrators. Participants will learn about the multi-jurisdictional response and investigation of a reported stranger rape at gunpoint in a public park, the use of phenotyping reports to narrow investigative leads and the use of genetic genealogy in a non-homicide investigation to identify a perpetrator.
