05.13.2021 The Senate Labor, Commerce and Industry Committee gave this bill a favorable report as amended. The amendment caps the training reimbursement at $1,000 for volunteer firefighters only. 
05.05.2021 The Senate Labor, Commerce and Industry Professions and Occupations subcommittee gave this bill a favorable report as amended. The amendment adds emergency medical technicians in the reimbursement training costs and also clarifies that the cost can only be reimbursed if the training occurred within the first two years of employment. The amendment also deletes "mandatory training" and replaces it with "training."

Summary: Firefighter training
    A BILL TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 40-80-65 SO AS TO PROVIDE PROCEDURES THROUGH WHICH A FIRE DEPARTMENT THAT ASSUMES THE COST OF TRAINING A FIREFIGHTER MAY BE REIMBURSED FOR THESE COSTS BY OTHER FIRE DEPARTMENTS THAT SUBSEQUENTLY HIRE THE FIREFIGHTER WITHIN A CERTAIN PERIOD OF TIME.
