Dr. Lester Jackson III, a resident of Savannah, Georgia, is a State Senator representing the 2nd Senatorial district of Georgia.

Before being elected to the Senate, he served 5 terms in the Georgia House of Representatives. He's the author of several landmark legislations including the Hate Crime bill which makes hate crimes illegal in the state of Georgia. Senator Jackson holds several leadership titles, among them are Chairman Emeritus of the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus as well as Chairman of the Senate Urban Affairs Committee. Chairman Jackson also served on the Senate Finance, Education and Youth, Health and Human Services committees and is an ex-official of the Higher Education Committee. Chairman Jackson is a proud veteran, serving seven years in the United States Navy.

Professionally Dr. Jackson is a cosmetic dentist and CEO of Atlantic Dental Associates. Senator Jackson's social affiliations include being a member of the American Legion Post 500, Charter member of the 100 Black Men of Savannah, life member of the NAACP, and a life member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. He served on the Savannah Urban Development Authority. Dr. Jackson is a 1985 graduate of Meharry Medical College and an alumnus of Paine College where he currently serves as Vice-chair of the Trustee board. He is a Fellow of the Pierre Fauchard Academy Dental Society.

His political background includes a past credentialed member at the Democratic National Committee and former Treasurer of the Democratic Party of Georgia. He is married to Dr. Lorna C. Jackson and the father of four children.
