Bio

Senator Kim Jackson was elected to the Georgia State Senate in November 2020, representing the 41st Senate District in DeKalb County. A Democrat from the rural South, Sen. Jackson was elected to serve as Senate Democratic Whip in 2024 and has served as Co-Chair of the Mental Health Caucus and Chair of the DeKalb County Delegation. Sen. Jackson also serves as a member of the Senate Committees on Appropriations, Children and Families, Public Safety, Reapportionment and Redistricting, and Rules. She also is an Ex-Officio Member on the Senate Committee for Ethics. In her years in office, Sen. Jackson has secured funds for Black farmers, Pre-K programs, and those experiencing traumatic brain injuries; passed life-saving legislation for survivors of domestic violence, stalking, and human trafficking; and advocated for LGBTQ+ rights, voting rights, refugee rights, reproductive rights, maternal and mental health care safeguards, and the decriminalization of homelessness.

An Episcopal priest from Cowpen, South Carolina, Sen. Jackson made Georgia home well over a decade ago.

After graduating from Furman University, she volunteered as an EMT while earning her Master's of Divinity at Emory's Candler School of Theology. She has worked as a college chaplain, is a nationally sought-after consultant and preacher, and serves the Church of the Common Ground, a parish in downtown Atlanta cocreating church with those experiencing homelessness. Sen. Jackson is the Senior Vice President of Programs at State Innovation Exchange (SiX). Sen. Jackson and her family live on an urban farm in Stone Mountain with a menagerie of goats, ducks, honeybees, rabbits, and chickens.
