BioState Senator Elena Parent, a Democrat, was elected to
the Georgia State Senate in 2014. She represents the 44th
Senate District, which includes portions of DeKalb and
Clayton Counties. She previously represented Senate
District 42, which included portions of central and north
DeKalb County.
Sen. Parent serves as Chair of the Senate Democratic
Caucus and is a member of the Senate Committees on
Education and Youth, Judiciary, Appropriations and
Government Oversight. She has been appointed to the Georgia Code Revision Commission, the Georgia Public Defender Standards
Council and the Public Defender Council Legislative Oversight Committee. She is also an active member of the
Senate DeKalb Delegation, the Working Families Legislative Caucus, and the Women's Legislative Caucus.
Previously, Sen. Parent served as Vice Chair of Campaigns and Fundraising for the Senate Democratic Caucus.
Sen. Parent began her career as a litigation attorney at Eversheds Sutherland LLP after her graduation from the
University of Virginia with her undergraduate and law degrees. She remains deeply engaged in her community,
currently serving on the Advisory Board for the Olmsted Linear Park Association and as an Emory Ambassador,
a role she has held since 2020. Previously, she served on the Board of Visitors for Emory University. She is a
current member of the Friends School of Atlanta Board of Trustees. Her work and leadership have earned numerous accolades, including being featured in Atlanta Business
Chronicle's "Who's Who Sustainability" for her leadership on energy and environmental policy issues. She has
also been recognized with the Fulton County Daily Report's "On the Rise" the Atlanta Business Chronicle's "40
Under 40" ACCG's Legislative Service Award, and the Georgia Association of Women Lawyers' "Leading Lady"
award. In 2019, she and her husband, Briley Brisendine, received the Clarence Seeliger Champions for Change
Award from the Women's Resource Center to End Domestic Violence. Sen. Parent and Briley are the proud parents of two young sons. The family are active members of All Saints'
Episcopal Church in Atlanta.
