Bio

Danny Burgess was elected to the Florida Senate in 2020 and has been reelected subsequently. He previously served in the Florida House of Representatives from 2014 to 2019. His public service includes positions on the Zephyrhills City Council from 2005 to 2008 and as Mayor of Zephyrhills from 2013 to 2014. He also served as Executive Director of the Florida Department of Veterans' Affairs from 2019 to 2020. Burgess has received numerous honors, including the Community Service Award from the Pasco County Sheriff's Office in 2018, the Champion of Business Award from Associated Industries of Florida in 2017, and the Distinguished Advocate Award from the Florida Chamber of Commerce in 2017. Other recognitions include the Champion for Agriculture Award from the Florida Farm Bureau, Legislator of the Year awards from the Florida Osteopathic Medical Association and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Outstanding Young Alumnus Award from the University of South Florida, all in 2017. He was also named Freshman Legislator of the Year by the Florida League of Cities and received the Leadership in Government Award from the Zephyrhills Chamber of Commerce in 2015. An attorney and U.S. Army Reserve Officer, Burgess is married to Courtney Clem of Lithia, Florida. They have three children- Adeline, Danny III, and Eleanor. Born in Zephyrhills, Florida, he earned a B.A. in Political Science from the University of South Florida in 2008 and a J.D. from Barry University School of Law in 2011. He later attended The U.S. Army Judge Advocate General's Legal Center and School in 2013. A Roman Catholic, he serves as a Major in the U.S. Army Reserve, having previously held the rank of Captain from 2012 to 2021. His recreational interests include community involvement, spending time with his wife and children, studying history and politics, and traveling in an RV with his family.
