Professional Development for Middle and High School Social Studies Teachers
Story Date: 9/24/2014

Oconee RESA announces a series of upcoming professional development sessions for middle school and high school Social Studies teachers.  These sessions will be held at select RESAs throughout the state. Best selling author Bruce Lesh will be conducting the all day workshops.  There is no charge to attend the workshop.   Participants will receive a free copy of Bruce Lesh’s best selling book.  Teachers will engage in hands-on activities focused on connecting Literacy and Social Studies and the use of historical investigations to teach historical content.  The goals of the professional development workshops include:

- Increasing understanding of the research on historical thinking and historical literacy

- Developing a cadre of teacher leaders to share these strategies with other teachers in their school and district

- Providing teachers with a better understanding of the importance of integrating literacy skills, primary and secondary documents into their instructional practices

- Providing teachers with research-based best practices to engage all learners in the Social Studies classroom

For additional details and to register, please contact one of the RESAs listed on the attached Bruce Lesh Training Map and information handout.
