Course Description
Formative Assessment is a process used by teachers and students as part of instruction that provides feedback to adjust ongoing teaching and learning to improve students' acheivement of core content.  As assessment for learning, formative assessment practices provide students with clear learning targets, examples and models of strong and weak work, criteria for success, regular descriptive feedback, and the ability to self-assess, tract learning, and set goals.

Target Audience:
Classroom Teachers
Instructional Facilitators/Coaches

Class Notes
For classroom formative assessment practices to both motivate students and increase student achievement, students need to know the learning target, know where they are at in regards to the learning target, and know what they can do to close the gap based on established criteria for success and descriptive feedback provided by the teacher.

In this workshop, participants will:
(1) establish learning targets for standards to be taught.
(2)  establish success criteria based on established learning targets.
(3)  develop formative assessments that support success criteria.
(4)  practice providing descriptive feedback on formative assessments.
(5)  help students set goals based on learning progression towards the targets.
