Characteristics of the Gifted introduces the candidate to the characteristics of gifted learners and special populations of gifted children including gifted females, underachieving gifted students, twice exceptional gifted students, culturally diverse gifted students, and economically disadvantaged gifted students. In addition to developing an understanding of the definitions of gifted learners and the history of gifted education, candidates will also examine the cognitive, social-emotional, and behavioral characteristics of gifted children, which necessitate different instructional design.
